
Geoff Raby

Geoff Raby is one of the region's foremost voices on business in China. He was Australia's Ambassador to China, having served earlier in his career as First Secretary (Economic) and then Counsellor (Economic), 1986-91. He was also Ambassador to the World Trade Organisation, Ambassador to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), and Deputy Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
After leaving government, he served as a Director at Fortescue Metals, OceanaGold, Yancoal, Isentia, and as the Chair of SmartTrans. He has also served as Chair of VisAsia at the New South Wales Art Gallery and as a member of the board of the foundations at the Gavan Institute and National Gallery of Victoria. He is currently Chair of the Australia-China Arts Residency.
Geoff publishes widely on China. He is the author of Great Game On: The Contest for Central Asia and Global Supremacy and China's Grand Strategy and Australia's Future in the World Order, and he is a regular contributor to the Australian Financial Review.
Geoff holds a PhD in economics and has been awarded the Order of Australia.
